It flashes between red and blue! Laptop Damage courtesy of my Niece

Behold, the S107G Metal R/C Helicopter! Nothing spectacular, but to start off my collection, and officially start my hobby (which will tread painfully slow for now) collecting and flying these machines. I just got it a few hours into the afternoon, which was unexpectedly fast as it was just shipped the day before, with USPS Priority or 2-3 days ground shipment. I guess it was a good thing the site I bought it from (HeliHobby.com) was in the same state.

Photobucket  As it was, excluding the “shipping paper” that was stuffed over it. There isn’t exactly much of a carrying case other than the box itself. It has a handle, which is indeed nice, so I spared it from mindless destruction which happens to whatever barriers my product from me.

Photobucket But what is this? Rechargable batteries! With a wall charger, of course. Luckily, I ordered the charger, along with 6 NiMH AA-sized batteries to come with my S107G. Now, it was pretty unexpected that the wall charger also came with batteries, but then again I can be quite an idiot. With the controller only needing 6 of these batteries, I’ll be doing quite fine.

Now, I won’t be making a video of flying these things, as I would probably suck with it anyway and that the batteries are charging (they take forever, more than 4 hours to charge) so I’m pretty stuck. I don’t want to use non-rechargable batteries as, well, I find it a waste of money when I have the ones I purchased above.

I did get a little impatient and charged 8 for about 2-4 hours each, and loaded it into the controller and set off (after charging the heli via USB of course, I love that recgharge option) for a bit and found it a very nice and stable helicopter, especially for a beginner. I found myself hovering it above me, as it acted as a nice fan as well.  I think overall this helicopter is great for the price, I’d probably do a bit of a more detailed amateur review but  I’d like to get more flight time and do some other tests (like crash, but nothing intense or intentional) and see if it will even last a few weeks of daily flights.

One thing bugged me about the helicopter though:

Oh man, if this kept my heli on the ground I'd be one angry...

Do you see that? Look at the screw in the center of the picture, yeah that. It’s loose, and guess what? I can’t even tighten it, or screw it in the hole it was meant to be fastened to. Luckily it didn’t screw up my helicopter, when I used it, and I’m going to see what I can do about this. I’ve tried switching the screws to see if it was part of the chasis (I think that’s what its called) but it seems the screw itself is just bad. So, I’m sure if that can get replaced I’ll be fine, and won’t need to send it in to get replaced and have to wait awhile to get my beloved heli back.

Other than that though, I’m pretty happy with my purchase. The processing when I bought it on HeliHobby kind of concerned me, especially when I found it (a couple days later) out of stock on the product page, and found mine still not shipped yet. Luckily customer support was quick to deal with this and send it the next day, and the shipping only took one day as well so it was well worth the delay and ahead of estimated delivery anyway!

So props to them, and tomorrow I’ll need to start getting good at flying to avoid incoming projectiles as it is inevitable that my niece will want to play with (and break) it.
